OHSU University Shared Resources
Electronics and Instrument Design Core Resource
We are an OHSU core resource for engineering help when you need:
- Electronic instrument design and fabrication for research projects
- Consultation on instrumentation problems for research or for patient care
- Instrumentation planning for proposal development, prototype equipment for pilot studies
- Design skills in: analog electronics, computer interfacing, embedded controllers,
software, optics, circuit board layout, instrument fabrication
Example project: MedTracker medication monitor, OHSU BME & Neurology.
Experimental device to track medication compliance for elders. Designed and fabricated at OHSU, it uses a PIC microcontroller and Bluetooth wireless data link. Results from a MedTracker pilot study helped us receive a large NIH grant (Jeff Kaye, Tamara Hayes). The MedTracker is now being installed in 200 homes nationwide as part of a four year field study. Example small consulting projects:
- Emergency repair to custom research electronics. Mary Heinricher, Neurosurgery.
- Pulse circuit and high power LED for vision research. Brett Jeffrey, Primate Center & Casey.
- MRI compatible subject response box. Mathew Snodgrass, Mike Nettleingham, Advanced Imaging Research Center.
